Fantasy Worlds Round-Up

What a final day!

As if Fiona Murtagh (1.91% support) didn’t cause a big enough upset, beating Lauren Henry (77.27% support) in one of the most nail-biting races of the championship, not a single player picked the Tokyo Olympic Champion, Stefanos Ntouskos of Greece (0%) to win the Men’s single - two absolutely wild races that were well worth the early start!

However none of this mattered to the Fantasy Rowing leaderboard.

BowSeat234, who first established a 30 points lead after day five thanks to their successful pick of the Italian Men’s Quad (11.02%), has led ever since to complete the tournament with a whopping 101 point lead over the chasing pack. Well done…!

teabag lime in 2nd place had been slowly creeping up the leaderboard in the closing stages, but shoutout to ZakWood (a Fantasy Rowing Patron 🦀) who catapulted up the rankings on the final day into 3rd!

Further down the leaderboard there will have been frustration for Chadland, who slipped out of the top 10 after a wobble on the final day with no wins - but still, she’s top commentator and absolutely walks the walk!!! There’s a ‘Greg S’ down in 35th - could it be her commentary partner from today, Greg Searle? Who knows… we don’t have blue ticks… yet.

Those of you who diligently read the emails will remember the battle of the Eds… Not only did Ed Fuller stick it to Edtwist with a 6 point lead, he also became a World Champion in the PR3 Mixed 4+ which is amazing! Congratulations!!!

It’s been a lot of fun organising this latest instalment of Fantasy Rowing and I hope the new format for multi lane racing was fun - I do need to make a few tweaks to the scoring system as a result but I’m not going to change the rules retrospectively (Fiona Murtagh and Stefanos Ntoukos were such shock wins that they ended up with less points than other competitiors despite becoming champion).

Next up I’m going to run Fantasy Charles which I’m super excited about!

If you’re not familiar with the Head of the Charles:

  1. It has Junior, Student, Club, Veteran and Championship level events that draw some of the best in the world (lots of Olympic medalists 🥇 - often forming crews with Olympic medalists from other nations for fun)

  2. It’s got a high quality live stream on YouTube (at sociable hours of the day) so most of us can watch without having to set an alarm for 3AM like we did for the World Champs. 👌🏻

  3. Many of the crews who race at the Head of the Charles will turn up at Henley - so, it’s your first bit of research for Fantasy Henley 2026. 🕵🏻‍♀️

At first glance we’ve seen St Paul’s School, KCS Wimbledon, Cambridge University, Oxford University, Leander, Crabtree (with some stacked crews 🔍), Lea RC, Taurus and more from the UK as well as Finn Hamill (the NZ sculler who won the Diamonds at HRR), the Sinkovic Brothers, Sanita Puspure, Karolien Florijn, Imogen Grant and more and more and more…

PLUS: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Washington, Northeastern, Brown etc will all be there in force.

The event offers 74 different categories of racing which (even for the most hardcore rowing fans) is too much… so we’ll soon be announcing the events that have been selected for Fantasy Charles and shortly after that predictions will open.
